How to Make a Background in Zoom

Zoom is a web-based video conferencing service with a variety of features. A few options are Vimeo Create, which is a great hosting platform for quick, pro-quality social media videos; and Canva: Online Design Made Easy, which offers a drag-and-drop design studio that allows you to customize your virtual background images to your liking.

Whether you’re looking for a natural, calming, or sturdy Zoom background, you’ll find plenty of free, high-quality images on the web. Among the most popular are landscapes and simple blurred backgrounds.

For a more unique look, try a shot of the cosmos or a crisp fall woodland scene. These are beautiful and dynamic, so they’re perfect for any meeting.

To upload your own virtual background, simply select “Choose Virtual Background” from the arrow next to the video icon in the Zoom desktop app or from the drop-down menu when starting or joining a Zoom meeting on your phone. Then, click on the “+” symbol to upload a picture from your computer or a YouTube video to replace the default white WFH environment.

Your image will be saved in your Zoom library, ready to be used during a meeting the next time you open up the app. You can also share the background you’ve created with colleagues who aren’t in your Zoom meeting to ensure they have a familiar environment to work from.

Depending on the size of your video and image, you may need to crop it before uploading to Zoom. You can do this with a graphic editing software like Photoshop or an animation studio like Vyond.

Zoom provides an extensive set of preset backgrounds for users to choose from. You can also create your own using an image or video you’ve taken yourself, as long as it’s in PNG or JPG/JPEG format and has the same aspect ratio as your camera.
