A curved text effect can add a great look to a piece of art, especially when it’s used as a logo or in an emblem. It’s also a simple way to create a circular image that will stand out on the web.
The best part about curve text is that it’s quick and easy to create, so you can have a wavy circle in your document in no time. But there are a few things you need to know to make your curves look their best.
Start by using the Direct Selection Tool to drag a guide from the Rulers along your circular path, which will help you align your text correctly. The guide should have two close together (in red) and one directly across the two (in green). You’ll want to drag these guides so that they meet at a point, which is where the center of the circle is, and align your text accordingly.
If your circular text isn’t centered, try changing its alignment by selecting it and clicking one of the options on the Options bar. You can align to the right, center, or left.
Another option is to use the Horizontal Text tool to write a squiggly line on your circular path. You can use this method for both text that’s on the outside or inside of the circle.
You can also use the Type on a Path tool to write text around your circular path. In Illustrator, the type on a path tool is located on the toolbar.
To use this tool, you’ll need to have the Shape tools selected in the left panel. Once you have the Shape tools selected, you’ll see a drop-down menu that includes various “type” selections. Select the type on a path tool to begin typing your circular text.
When your text is complete, you can resize the path to make it larger or smaller. Then, you can change the curve’s intensity to find that perfect Goldilocks spec of curvature.
A curve’s intensity is a big factor in how your text appears, and you can control this by setting the scale. The scale will affect the size and thickness of the arc. You can adjust the scale until you have the exact arc that you need, and then set the curve’s intensity to match.
Once you’ve got the arc just right, it’s time to edit your text. Fortunately, you can change the font, size, and color of your text easily in Word.
You can even choose to have your arcs be colored differently, if you want a different look for your circular text. For example, you can have your arcs be white or black for a more elegant look.
Depending on the size and depth of your circle, you may need to use negative values for the Curving settings in order to have an upside-down curved text. This can help you make your text easier to read, as the bottom part of your circle will be lower than the top.
